Abstract: The relationship between teaching and research, and the outputs generated from this nexus, is of current and continuing importance to writing as a field of academic inquiry in higher education in Australia and other countries. Receiving this set of three books to review has prompted me to consider the role of such student handbooks, textbooks and scholarly texts in both the field, and in the careers of those who teach writing.
